October 14th, 2009 - Caulfield Cup Betting Update
The barrier draw for the $2.5 million Group One Caulfield Cup has caused a major change to online horse racing betting markets with runners Kirklees and Cima de Triomphe the big winners and favorites.
A good draw in the Caulfield Cup is considered very important as history has shown that only four horses have won the race from outside gate 11 in the past 22 years – Mummify (13 in 2003), Mannerism (13 in 1992), Let’s Elope (17 in 1991) and Lord Reims (18 in 1987).
Kirklees is favoured to make it back-to-back victories for the renowned Godolphin stable in Saturday’s $2.5 million Caulfield Cup after drawing ideally in barrier seven.

Kirklees will come in to barrier six if the emergencies don’t gain a start as third reserve Newport drew barrier one.Kerrin McEvoy, who won on All The Good, will take the ride on Kirklees who has won his past three starts in England, the latest carrying 61kg in the Group Three September Stakes (2414m) at Kempton on September 5.
Tommy Strang, representing Godolphin, said Kirklees was in prime condition going into the race.
“The horse is in good form and ready to run a big race on Saturday. He’s a more proven performer than All The Good was at this stage of their careers,” Strang said.
The Luca Cumani-trained Cima De Triomphe is at $8.50 after drawing barrier 11 with New Zealand-trained mare Daffodil firming from $11 to $9 after drawing four.
Cumani’s wife Sarah said Cima De Triomphe was “the most obvious chance” of the horses the stable had brought to Australia which include Melbourne Cup runners-up Purple Moon and Bauer, and Mad Rush who ran fourth in last year’s Caulfield Cup.
